St. Joseph Academy Announces Sal Marchese as Next Head Football Coach

Hammonton, NJ – October 2, 2025 – St. Joseph Academy, an independent faith-based school in the Catholic tradition, announced today that Head Football Coach Ron Dorsey will step down at the conclusion of the 2025 season after three years leading the Wildcats. Coach Dorsey, who has guided the program with dedication and care, will continue to serve St. Joseph Academy in his role within the Student Services Department. At the same time, the Academy is proud to announce that Coach Sal Marchese has been appointed as the new Head Football Coach, effective at the close of the current season.

Coach Dorsey has already communicated his decision with his staff, players, and their families. He shared,

“This was not an easy decision, but it is the right one for me and my family at this time. I love St. Joseph Academy, our football program, and especially the young men I have had the privilege to coach. Coaching here has been one of the great joys of my life, but there are many factors in my personal life that make this the right moment to step away from the sidelines. I am grateful to my coaches, players, and families for their support. I will continue to work in Student Services, a role I truly enjoy, and I look forward to supporting our students and being a part of this wonderful school community.”

President Stephen Cappuccio expressed gratitude for Coach Dorsey’s leadership, saying:

“We are incredibly thankful for everything Coach Dorsey and his staff have done for our football team, our students, and our school as a whole. His passion for the game and his dedication to the development of our student-athletes go well beyond wins and losses — he has been a mentor, teacher, and role model. Ron and I have been discussing this since the spring, and I fully support his decision. He is a wonderful man, an asset to St. Joseph Academy, and an excellent example for our students.”

With Coach Dorsey’s transition, St. Joseph Academy proudly welcomes Coach Sal Marchese as the new Head Football Coach. Coach Marchese brings more than three decades of coaching experience and a decorated career. He began coaching at Buena High School in 1988 under legendary Coach Chuck Donahue. In 1993, he joined Delsea High School, where he remained for 31 years as both an assistant and Head Coach. During his tenure as Head Coach, Marchese amassed 249 career wins and led Delsea to 11 Sectional/State Championships, establishing himself as one of the most respected coaches in New Jersey high school football.

President Cappuccio shared his enthusiasm for this new chapter:

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Marchese to St. Joseph Academy. His resume speaks for itself — 249 wins and 11 championships — but more importantly, he is a man who lives our core values of Faith, Family, and Future. Sal brings not only tremendous football knowledge and experience but also a character and leadership style that will inspire our student-athletes and community. We are excited about the future of St. Joseph Academy Football under his guidance.”

Currently, St. Joseph Academy Football stands at 3–1 on the season, and the team will continue to compete with focus and determination as the transition takes place.
